It’s winter in Stockholm!

It’s winter in Stockholm! When I woke up this morning the whole city was covered in snow. Okay, so you have to wear more clothes than desired, but the postcard-perfect sights are even more beautiful this way.

One of the best things I know to do this season is to see Stockholm from the water.

Seeing Stockholm from the water during the cold months is unique and at least as magical as during a high summer day. The fresh, clean air, the calm, beautiful landscape, the shifting colors of nature, and the special silence all contribute to a unique experience. Read more about boat tours in Stockholm>>

Want to stay inside?

The F12 Group has opened three new restaurants in Stockholm this year. As usual when it comes to F12 the restaurants all have different orientations and are placed in creative environments:
Köttbaren – the meat bar – continues on the ongoing meat trend in Stockholm. Köttbaren is made up of three things: a restaurant, a boutique and a bar that all specializes in meat. The establishment is located on Tegnergatan in central Stockholm.

Ever heard of plank steak? This Hungarian dish has over the year been Swedified and is now considered a Swedish classic, much like béarnaise sauce and macaronis with falukorv (falu sausage). At Villa Godthem out on Djurgården plank steak became a hit the instant the restaurant re-opened its 19th century doors. This is a perfect place to spend the winter evenings.

Miss Voon in central Stockholm is a modern restaurant combining taste from all the Asian cuisines, but with a European basis – freshness, simplicity and a distinct character in taste. Miss Voon also has a sashimibar that serves raw fish and seafood. If you’re not planning to eat, enjoy a drink at the bar.

Hetero of the year?

My colleague Christina Guggenberger has been nominated for the QX Gay Gala Awards in the category “Hetero of the Year”. She’s nominated because of the fantastic job she’s doing working to promote Stockholm as the perfect LGBT destination.

Magnus Lindbergh, VisitSweden NY and Christina Guggenberger, Stockholm Gay & Lesbian Network

- Openness, diversity and respect. These are the three core values necessary to attract the LGBT segment. Christina Guggenberger knows what she’s talking about, she’s been the project manager at Stockholm Gay & Lesbian Network since the start – working side by side with organizations rooted in the Swedish gay community. And the result speaks for itself: today Stockholm is considered as one of the top 10 most interesting gay city break destinations in the world, according to a survey conducted by the San Francisco based organization Community Marketing Inc.

Stockholm Gay & Lesbian Network started in 2005 as a project within Stockholm Visitors Board. The aim? To market and develop Stockholm as an interesting and attractive destination. – It’s gone fantastically well. Stockholm and partner products are today visible in and through all major LGBT media as well as selected travel channels, says Christina Guggenberger.

NEW! SAS Gay Crew Guide

The SAS Crew Guide has been a popular print guide for almost a decade now. SAS also have it as an app, but they thought of taking it one step further for their LGBT travellers. SAS is therefore proud to present the live SAS Gay Crew Guide video to Stockholm. In three different clips, Swedish hunk (and yes, he’s a footballer, too) Anton Hysén gets some tips from the SAS gay crew on the best things to do and see in Stockholm. And of course, there are some tips from Anton himself as well.
