Why Stockholm Pride?
More than half a million people and a dead king can’t be wrong: Stockholm Pride is a perfect celebration of gay culture!

The festivals mix of party, politics and culture turns this summer hot capital into a bustling city painted in the colours of the rainbow flag. Since it was first held in 1998, Stockholm Pride has grown to become Stockholm’s largest annual festival, as well as the largest Pride celebration in Scandinavia.

The week-long festival culminates in the annual Stockholm Pride parade with about 50,000 participants and more than 500,000 spectators who gather to watch the procession of Viking Bears and butches, boy toys and drag queens, gay Christians and gay policemen … you name it!

And the aforementioned dead king? Well, the extravagant king Gustav III (1746-1792) would have loved the parade, which is why it stops at his statue, located below the Royal Palace, and lays a wreath of flowers at his feet.

Welcome to my town

My name is Martin Blix and I am a proud gay man living in Stockholm. I have been working for Sheraton Stockholm Hotel for 14 years now. My parents have been very supportive since I had my coming out process, and at my work this has never been an issue.

I have a French boyfriend since 9 months and he is so surprised that we can kiss in the streets and holding hands without people taking notice.

I am also a member of a band called Domenicer. We released a single called Bög, Mamma, Kines (Gay, Mama, Chinese) last year, that became an instant hit. We had 200 000 views on youtube before it got censored (probably for the gay parts in the video). But MSN still shows it, and you can see it here. The big English gay paper Gay Times UK did a spread about us, a big surprise for us, due to that we sing in Swedish.

I was a bit afraid what the management at Sheraton would say about the video when it was released, but even our GM thought that the video was funny.

One of my co workers did not feel comfortable as a man and discover that he actually was a woman. All of us a Sheraton Stockholm supported her thru her process to become a woman. I am so proud to work at a Hotel and live in a town where everybody is equal.

Anton Hysén a soccer hero

The hottest and most good-looking Swedish gay star this year must be Anton Hysén. The 20 year old football player came out as gay to the Swedish football magazine Offside in March 2011. This became a worldwide sensation. Even BBC covered it on their news.

This coming Saturday Anton will host the Clean party at Kolingsborg, one of the most famous gay clubs in Stockholm. The Clean parties are famous for their extravagant themes, top performers and the good-looking party crowd.

We called up the hottie Anton and asked him about why you should come and visit Stockholm. “Swedish people are open and friendly, you can be yourself without being judged, and I’m also proud that Sweden is such a clean country.

When I go to clubs I like Kolingsborg, where the Clean party is held, and I also like the gay club number 2 at Berns.”
