One of the passengers on board SK903, The Love Flight, was our lovely friend Clark Massad, IGLTA European Ambassador. As you can see, he took some beautiful photos of the weddings. Thank you Clark for letting me share them!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

Love is in the air; same sex wedding

Today, in Swedish airspace, Aleks & Shantu and Ewa & Gosia became the first same-sex couples to be married on a commercial airline flight. Congratulations!

Aleks and Shantu arrived at the Hilton Slussen Saturday afternoon in a snowy Stockholm. Just like VIPs there was almost a paparazzi welcoming as BBC filmed their check-in.

BBC and I then followed the couple to the Efva Attling Store where they got try to their rings – which fitted perfectly. In the Efva Attling Store, BBC’s Rajan Datar interviewed the couple as well. Don’t miss it on BBC’s “Fast Track” later this month.

Congratulations to the winners of Love is in the air!

More than 300 couples from all over the world competed for love: The first same-sex wedding in the air, and a wedding at the ICEHOTEL in northern Sweden followed by a honeymoon in Stockholm. Over 400,000 people visited the Love is in the air site and cast more than 350,000 votes.

CONGRATULATIONS to the German gay couple Aleksandar Mijatovic and Shantu Bhattacherjee, who will become the world’s first same-sex couple to get married in the air onboard Scandinavian Airlines’ flight SK903 on December 6 between Stockholm and New York. The guys received a total of 81,640 votes, making them the winning couple of SAS’ Love is in the air competition.

The couple managed to get so many votes through effective social media campaigning all over the world, which led to 536,000 links on Google.

North Carolina residents Thomas Landreth and Brett Kessler are the winners of the US-based love competition. Thomas and Brett will be whisked off to the ICEHOTEL in northern Sweden to experience a world-unique commitment ceremony followed by a honeymoon in beautiful Stockholm.

The couple has been together since March 2008 and they say that this is “a totally unique experience and would ensure that our commitments to each other would take place in a one-of-a-kind setting (Mach 0.83 at 39,000) feet.”

CONGRATULATIONS Thomas and Brett, we look forward to welcoming you to Sweden and Stockholm in a couple of months.

There was an overwhelming amount of love in this competition and SAS got so carried away by all the love, so they decided that not only a gay couple will get married in the air. There will also be a lesbian couple: Ewa Tomaszewicz and Gosia Rawińska. Congratulations!

Ewa & Gosia have become somewhat of a celebrity couple in Poland after the Love competition as they appeared in magazines and on TV numerous times and got the Poles involved. A third of all visitors to this site alone came from Poland.

 CONGRATULATIONS!

And the winner is…

Love is in the air! SAS Scandinavian Airlines have now counted 350,000 votes and will soon announce the winners of both the European and US-based competitions. They say: “You might think you know who won, but we can guarantee you will be surprised.”
