Perhaps the most characteristically Swedish tradition of all is the Midsummer celebration, celebrated on June 24, the longest day of the year when the sky never goes dark.
Most Stockholmers leave for the archipelago or the countryside during the weekend, but those who stay behind have options too.

Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum, holds a grand Midsummers celebration with dancing and games to Swedish folk music around the maypole, decorated with flowers and leaves. Many participants wear traditional folk costumes and wreaths of flowers in their hair. Midsummer is celebrated outdoors in similar fashion at locations throughout Sweden. A traditional midsummer meal includes herring, fresh potatoes, beer and snaps. As this is a major national holiday many places in Stockholm are closed on Midsummer Eve and -Day (June 24-25).

Celebrate midsummer with Miss Inga at Bistro Berns in central Stockholm!
The festivities starts at 11AM, with the decoration of the maypole. Your hostess, guiding you through the festivities, is the artist Miss Inga. At Bistro Berns you can enjoy the midsummer menu from noon on. Don’t miss to book your table by calling +468-566 325 15
The outdoor party goes on until 10PM and continues at Berns Terrace and nightclub with dancing and dj sets all night.

One of the best places to enjoy the summer season in Stockholm is at Mälarpaviljongen.
Overlooking Lake Mälaren this is a cosy, green haven where you can chill out over a glass of wine, lovely lunch or why not just enjoy a coffee & cake after a pleasant walk along Norr Mälarstrand Promenade?
This is the place if you are looking for an atmospheric, cozy local restaurant and high-spirited bar with great music and people. It also happens to one of the hottest LGBT spots in town!

For many Swedes the Eurovision is something special. With ABBA’s Waterloo fresh in the memory we consider ourselves to be the true schlager nation. (The Swedish national competition is Europe’s biggest.) Last year’s disappointing score leaving Sweden out of the actual final turned into a national gay drama trauma. Therefore last night’s semi final win for Eric Saade and his hit Popular was more than welcomed at Stockholm’s most happening gay bar Torget where the Eurovision is shown on big screen. Our correspondent sent us this video:

We’re sure Saturday will be even more hysterical. So if you’re visiting Stockholm this weekend make sure to be ready for Eurovision mania. Why not start your night at Torget where they will be showing the competition live as it all happens. Then head to Zipper, the gay club just off Stureplan, and celebrate whoever wins. If the Irish Jedward boys spandex trousers aren’t enough for you why not watch the show on big screens at SLM? Dress code applies, of course!
Not so into the Eurovision? Garage is open in Kolingsborg and The Dasco, the club’s sweaty success of last summer, is once again The Place To Be. (Haven’t been yet? Well, let’s just say it’s a loo full of hot Swedes – and you of course.)
Queer club 2:an in the Berns basement is also a fabulous choice for a Saturday night in Stockholm. But make sure to be on the guest list if you want to be let into Miss Inga’s VIP world of sin. (For guest list email martin@missinga.se before 9.)
Have an amazing Eurovision weekend!

There is lots to do in Stockholm this weekend. Today we celebrate Walpurgis in Sweden, which is marked by a very traditional Spring festival with singing and lighting of bonfires. There are a few places in Stockholm where visitors can view this tradition in action. One of the best places to be for Walpurgis is at Skansen and Restaurant Solliden. Here you have the the best view for the big bonfire show! The bonfire will be lit at 9pm. Book Restaurant Solliden’s Rainbow Offer>>
The weekend culminates in a crazy gay hat parade on Sunday. The parade starts at 15:00 from Kungsholmstorg and goes along the Norr Mälarstrand promenade to the Mälarpaviljongen, where a jury will nominate the parade’s most beautiful hat.
