It’s crayfish season!

Would you like to do something really Swedish while you’re in Stockholm? Then my suggestion is to eat crayfish.

What would August be without a crayfish party? Eating freshwater crayfish in August is one of Sweden’s most cherished food traditions. The “red gold” is boiled with salt, dill and other seasonings, then chilled and eaten fresh from the shell.

Brännvin (distilled alcohol such as vodka) is traditionally the accompanying drink, but beer is also a favorite.

A number of Stockholm restaurants serve crayfish during certain weeks in August. Contact the restaurant in advance to see if crayfish are on the menu before visiting. A select few are listed here>>
