Fashion! at Fotografiska

Fashion! is a new exhibition at Fotografiska, one of the world’s largest meeting places for contemporary photography.

The exhibition is based on Camera Work’s collection in Berlin, which received a great deal of attention the first time it was exhibited.

Over 200 photographs, of which a large number are vintage prints, created by 50 world renown photographers, make Fashion! one of the most comprehensive exhibitions of fashion photography in Europe. It is a spectacular odyssey through fashion photography’s visual world. From Man Ray’s experimental compositions from the 1920s, to icons such as Irving Penn and Richard Avedon to Steven Meisel and Peter Lindbergh’s cult of supermodels during the 1990s. Today’s fashion photography is represented by Steven Klein and Mikael Jansson, to name only a few.

In addition to a comprehensive description of fashion photography’s various styles and trends, the exhibition offers an overview of fashion history for the engaged visitor. The sexual revolution and the feminist movement is a reccurring theme throughout the fashion world of the 20th century, where stylists, photographers, fashion editors, and designers have consistently and tirelessly pushed the visual and functional boundaries of clothing construction and materials.

Scissor Sisters “too gay”

Scissor Sisters, playing in Stockholm in October, thought they were “too gay” for mainstream success.

Singer Ana Matronic thought the band – who have now sold over six million albums – would be seen as too much of a novelty act to make it big.

She said: “I never thought the Scissor Sisters would make it outside of New York City, let alone outside of America. I thought we were just too weird and too gay for public consumption. I thought we were much more of a novelty and we’d never encounter success on such a level.”

Acne + Candy Magazine

ACNE has joined forces with Candy Magazine to launch a new mini collection for transvestites and cross-dressers.

The Swedish label and the publication’s editor, Luis Venegas, have designed a collection of three androgynous shirts. Based on the classic western shirt, the three styles are named after Venegas’ favourite show Dynasty, with each design carrying the name of one of its characters; Alexis, Sammy Jo and Krystle.

“Luis energy really reminds of the energy we had when we started Acne,” says Acne’s creative director Jonny Johansson. “He seems to be this endless well of ideas and creativity. It is something that instantly attracted me to him. We share an openness to new ideas and expressions, so to work with him felt natural from the start. I’m in this business to have fun and to enjoy myself, and I feel that Luis is too. This collection is a playful collaboration and a celebration of diversity. It touches on ideas I have always played with when designing for Acne, the tension between male and female and what happens when you shift things around a bit. This project has been so much fun.”

The collection will be available in October.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines and VisitSweden together with Stockholm Gay & Lesbian Network and the ICEHOTEL are proud to present this falls most exciting and worlds-exclusive LGBT social media campaign!

SAS Scandinavian Airlines is hoping to host the world’s first same-sex wedding in the air onboard an Airbus A340 between Stockholm and New York on December 6 this year. To find the couples, the airline today launched its first major social media campaign; Love is in the air!

For the US LGBT market, SAS has partnered up with VisitSweden and Stockholm Gay & Lesbian Network to offer one lucky couple the chance to win an unforgettable wedding and honeymoon package to Sweden, including Business class flights with SAS to Sweden, two nights’ accommodation at the world-renowned ICEHOTEL, where the couple will get married, three nights’ accommodation at Hotel Skeppsholmen in Stockholm and a VIP Stockholm package organized by the Stockholm Visitors Board.
