Sweden is Europe’s gay-friendliest country!

ILGA-Europe
, the European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association has named Sweden as Europe’s most pro-gay country.

The new edition of the group’s “Rainbow Europe Country Index” says Sweden is the only European nation that passes all the group’s tests in areas such as anti-discrimination protections, recognition of same-sex partnerships and parenting, hate-crime and hate-speech laws, and equal age-of-consent laws.

“Our congratulations to Sweden for making sure its legislation and practices are fully inclusive and respectful of human rights of LGB people,” said ILGA-Europe board chair Martin K.I. Christensen.

Rounding out the top five highest-ranked were Belgium, Netherlands, Norway and Spain.

  1. After being kicked out of Cafe Opera tonight just for being gay (because that was the only reason the guard gave me), I cannot say this is a liberal an tolerant country at all. It never happened to me in Spain where I came from.

    • Dear Alvaro,
We were really sad to learn about your experiences at Café Opera. Unfortunately there are and will always be stupid and ignorant people that will and can pass on their ignorant and narrow minded attitude to others.

But we do hope that you had the possibility to meet with many Stockholmers that showed that our city really is welcoming and open.

Of course I will contact the Café Opera and get back to you with their answer as soon as possible.

      Best regards from Stockholm.
      Christina Guggenberger
